The Weight Of Surfacing

by Sea Trials

Sea Trials is the work of an Irish artist named Ian W. McCarthy who currently resides in Hungary, a landlocked country. The self-titled debut Sea Trials album emerged on our sister label Whitelabrecs earlier this year, exploring a longing for the shore as Ian finds himself craving the scent of sea air.

Both the album and his EP for Audio Gourmet 'The Weight Of Surfacing' were created by recording synth, piano and guitar to tape before the cassettes were weathered or manipulated and then recorded back into digital files for further exploration. Some of the material realised within this EP was crafted from longer compositions with 'Symphony For A Breach Part 2' in particular being part of something larger; a suite for strings and horns.

Throughout this brief selection of material from the Sea Trials vault, Ian further explores themes of decay and regrowth, taking into account the effects time has on sound, both in the mind of the composer and in the physical world. This is all condensed into a bite-sized journey for our fifteen minute time constraint - if you're keen to explore further, why not check out the Sea Trials album?
