Following the recent release of their album 'Adrift', out now on Nomadic Kids Republic, we're pleased to present this single track by Pleq & Hakobune on Audio Gourmet.
Sleepless, with similar connotations to the word Adrift could easily be seen as a partner piece to this stunning collaborative album between two of the more ubiquitous artists in the scene. Both have carved out a career defined by quality despite the regularity of their output and we're at a stage now where most of you will be familiar with their work.

Pleq is Polish experimental sound artist Bartosz Dziadosz, who many fans of Audio Gourmet will already know for his previous contributions in compilations and collaborations. On the topic of collaborations, it is this approach to working with sound that has helped steer him successfully to prolific status, with him preferring to work with others in recent years. The list is too numerous to recite in full but just a few names include the likes of Offthesky, Luup, Anna Rose Carter and now Hakobune.

Hakobune on the other hand is relatively new to collaborations, yet prolific with his solo work. If you follow labels like Hibernate, Rural Colours, Somehow Recordings or U-Cover you'll have likely come across this artist before. Takahiro Yorifuji is the man behind the project, hailing from Japan and providing some of the most blissful guitar drones around over the last few years.

Together, this far-flung duo have carefully adjoined two different approaches to sound design to breathtaking effect. Yorifuji's guitar drones unfurl majestically over a 20 minute duration, all the while punctuated by the fractured miniscule detail and texture that we associate with Pleq.
The subject matter for this sonic construction is a lack of sleep; something many artists and listeners alike can relate to. From an artist's perspective when creating such lulling music you can get lost in the creativity and despite its trance-like effect, it is difficult to actually sleep when creating it. So whilst many will choose to create this music by day, those who choose to work by night may encounter lack of sleep.

It is fascinating to think of the sacrifice of a good night's sleep for the sake of art. Essentially, despite the sleepless environment in which it was created, listeners are provided with a longform meditative piece which could easily have the opposite effect if consumed by night.
