by Flavien Gillié

We bid farewell to our third year of operation with
the last two EPs to see out 2012. First up is Kinsendael, the work of field recordings artist Flavien Gillié, which comprises of five pieces. We do like to release field recordings on Audio Gourmet but we are very selective of what we put out. Every so often a pure field recordings based work catches our ears and this is no exception.

Kinsendael is a nature reserve located near Brussels in Belgium and it provided a location for Flavien’s recording at the beginning of 2012. He spent many a wintry day just sitting and listening in the cold, trying to forget his frozen feet and looking for wildlife around the small river. Buildings are not far away, almost encroaching on the nature reserve yet remaining just far away enough for it to still feel tranquil and removed from society. Often there have been talks of construction projects and building investments in the Kinsendael nature reserve but fortunately it has been protected by the local community. A balance between the natural world and culture is maintained and this special place remains.

The cover artwork was taken by the artist during the time when he was recording, as well as bonus imagery included with this free download.
