Slow Clinic is a project which began in 2012, helmed by North East, United Kingdom based artist James Armstrong. James' previous work has appeared on labels such as Somehow and Vent as well as on our sister label Tessellate's compilation series Earthtones. The project began around a time when James was having difficulty sleeping and had taken to walking in the Cardiff Bay area of Wales where he was studying at the time. The walks were accompanied by the sounds of Ambient playlists and on one particularly striking occasion, the sun came up as Jonsi & Alex's 'Boy 1904' started to play and James suddenly became inspired to recreate the feeling of that moment into his own work. He walked home and recorded his first track 'Sirens at the Etap' which features on his debut EP 'First Works'.

Here we are today, some three years later and James' sound has evolved somewhat. His work here for Audio Gourmet is a raw and honest account over three carefully traced tracks of drones and field recordings. The Things I Leave Behind is a short and restful meditation on long distance relationships, as James reflects on the 5000+ mile distance that lies between him and his fiancée. Whilst visiting during a summer break, the two captured many field recordings as James strived to preserve the memories into musical reflections that would provide comfort to the melancholy of his return home.
Field recordings include outdoor decking in Seattle after July 4th celebrations, a party in Guildford and Gelt Woods, near the Lake District and then the sounds that make up the Interlude track, which is of a dog named Abbee walking around as a fisherman dragged an anchor across the rocks.
