about

AGN074

After a slow year at AG HQ we can at last announce that things are back on track after our web domain had expired and somebody else had kindly decided to buy it in our absence. Of course, our fault for letting things lapse and we've taken the opportunity to redesign the website which was in need of a refresh after 4 years.
We're now busy planning our future schedule as we move into our fifth year of operation and first up we've got a new EP from Delaware, US based artist Ben Fleury-Steiner. Ben has been extremely patient over the last year and we're delighted to at last be able to present 'Passages' which features three pieces of what he describes as floaty, plangent Ambience.

Passages is an ode to the enormous mystery that is our comparatively short time on this planet and draws inspiration from outer-space photography and the ancient pastime of stargazing. Clocking in slightly at slightly longer than our guide time of fifteen minutes, Ben's sounds explore these gigantic themes carefully despite the all too brief nature of the traditional Audio Gourmet EP. Ambient music has long been influenced by space, from which the term Space Music was coined - a genre which is often seen negatively these days as being a bit cheesy and tedious. This certainly isn't the case with Passages, which draws on all of Ben's 12 year experience in recording experimental music, full of detailed layers - from the micro-sound de-construted synth fragments crafted in AudioMulch to the old Russian radio recordings sampled in 'Telemetry' there's a maturity to this sound which will simply mesmerise.

Over the years, Ben has amassed a discography which lists releases on the likes of Low Point, Rural Colours, Mystery Sea and Infraction as well as collaborations with Matt Borghi, Christopher McFall and not least Aidan Baker, who Ben cites as a mentor. Ben's has also run his own label Gears Of Sand for many years in which he has worked with over 50 artists
